World History

What are the four river valley civilizations we have discussed so far?

1) Egyptian (Nile River) civilization

2) Mesopotamia  (Tigris and Euphrates rivers)

3) Huang He (Yellow River) civilization

4) Indus civilization

What are the similarities of these civilizations?
All engaged in large scale irrigation; drawing labor from the population. All used glyph writing systems; Mesopotamia: cuneiform, Nile: hieroglyphics, yellow: Chinese, Indus: Harappan script.
What are some differences between the civilizations?
There are many differences, geography of course. But the largest one is that the Indus’s writing, Harappan script has never been deciphered so historians know the least about it.
What are some of the basic characteristics of the civilizations and how are they demonstrated by the four civilizations we have discussed?
They went from hunting to gathering, not staying in one place. To growing their own food, and staying in one place.
